I got an odd call today. I picked up the phone and the gentleman on the other end of the line said he saw my resume on the Internet and was impressed and wondered if we could “get together to talk about it over lunch.”
I thanked him but explained politely that I was not currently looking for other employment. Crestfallen and confused, he then asked, somewhat accusatorily, “What is your resume doing on the Internet, then?” — as if there’s no other reason to have it there. I explained that it was just THERE. I was proud of what I do and it was another way for people to learn a bit more about me.
He then asked me if I knew of anyone looking. (Kinda like the guy asking, “Do you have a sister!?”) I promised to put him in contact with the local legal secretaries’ association employment chairman.
It’s good to know that if I’m fired Monday, I might possibly have somewhere else to go! He also told me that he did a Google search for “legal secretary houston texas” and my resume came up number one!
Now, if I HAD been looking for a job, I couldn’t get anyone to look at my resume to save my neck.
