Today’s ride is a De Tomaso Pantera. From its introduction in 1971, the De Tomaso Pantera has been acknowledged as an outstanding design effort. Designed by Giampaolo Dallara and styled by Tom Tjaarda, the Pantera was built by Vignale, although it carried Ghia badges.
Athough its bloodlines are thoroughbred Italian, in the mid-positioned engine bay beats the heart of an American quarterhorse: Ford’s 351 4V Cleveland engine. Coupled with a five-speed ZF transaxle, this muscular V-8 transforms the Pantera, providing tremendous torque and brutal acceleration. Behold the beast:
