A former member of the militant “El Mujahid” brigade has sought temporary asylum in Serbia in exchange for testifying about al-Qaeda style atrocities in the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. Ali Ahmed Ali Hamad, a Bahraini who has just completed a 12-year prison term in Bosnia-Herzegovina for robbery and terrorism, said this week he would give evidence linking Bosnian Muslim wartime officials to the unit’s crimes against Serbs and Croats.
The mainly Arab mujahideen decapitated at least three Bosnian Serb prisoners of war and tortured or killed dozens of others with beatings and electric shocks at the Kamenica camp in July and August 1995, say prosecutors. Serbia’s war crimes prosecution office says it would like to hear his testimony and might authorise his extradition from the neighbouring country, whose three-way ethnic conflict was the bloodiest of the Yugoslav break-up.
“We are interested in this case and are working on it intensively,” said Bruno Vekaric, prosecution spokesman. Mr Hamad said he had renounced violence and wanted to help “fight terrorism“. He has already testified at the United Nations tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in The Hague, against a former Bosnian Muslim army chief, Rasim Delic, convicted four months ago for failing to prevent the mujahideen’s abuses. He had also spoken to US and other intelligence services, his lawyer, Dusko Tomic, told Serbian newspapers.
Several thousand mujahideen, including veterans who had already fought the Soviets in Afghanistan, bolstered the officially secular Bosnian army with extra manpower, expertise and often fanatical bravery against better armed Serb and Croat forces. Mr. Hamad was among those who arrived in 1992 to wage “jihad” against Bosnia-Herzegovina’s two main Christian ethnic groups.
While some later moved on to the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, many others settled and married Bosnian Muslim women. The Bosnian government, under US pressure, has since questioned their naturalised citizenship and deported a few deemed a security threat.

IT’S TOTALLY ANNOYING! THIS ARTICLE CLEARLY SHOWS THE LINK OF BOSNIAN MUSLIM AUTHORITIES TO AL QAEDA, AND WHAT IS EVEN MORE INTERESTING, THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT COME FROM A SERBIAN SOURCE, SO YOU CAN’T CALL IT SERBIAN PROPAGANDA.
